Recommendations:

Internet buying of pups makes it difficult to match my dogs  to the personalities of the buyer—which is ideal. These requirements and recommendations may seem unusual to  some.  Let me explain why the welfare of  my dogs is important to me. Here at Delightful D's Danes we try to continue and follow the AKC standards for breeding by only breeding Danes that help improve the breed, Temperament, conformation, and healthiness.

New owners should consider that this is a large breed and needs a spacious place for daily exercise. Things also cost around double of that of a medium size dog such as food, vaccinations and monthly flea medication because of it’s size. These expenses need to be well considered before making a decision.

My Danes are not bred until their second heat cycle.  Each Mama Danes' have their own 8X8 whelping box with padding layered by a thin carpet padding and secured by carpet on top. This type of bedding will be until puppy potty training starts around 3 weeks of age. Then puppy pads are used and a seperate sleeping area is made from the potty area. Each Dane has their own favorite queen sized blanket (usually the one on our bed which has familiar smells so that mama is less stressed out) that is also layered in the box to make her feel more comfortable during the birthing process.  Heat is provided in the winter months and A/C for the hot summer months. Once they are bred, the next 62 days I spend  time daily with my females carefully watching over them, keeping them healthy,  exercised, provide special food for the growth of the developing pups and for  the health and milk production of the mother. When the Dam goes into labor, we are present or a doggy midwife is present to help insure the safety of the pups and Dam during the birthing process. Thefirst 14 days daily weight is recorded on the pups after which weight is recorded on a weekly bases. If she has a large litter, I provide supplemental feed for the pups several times a day. A record of the pups behavior is recorded during the first 8 weeks. This not only helps decide which pup portrays traits for show quality but also gives new owners an idea of what to expect from their new family member. Dewclaws are removed within the first 3 days. Pups are well socialized before leaving our home. They are handled daily by adults and children, interact with other animals and people. I change bedding frequently to keep them dry, clean and healthy. I provide  vaccinations, worming, and whatever additional medical care needed to make them healthy. This is all a labor of love.  But make no mistake, it is labor—a lot of  hard work went into the healthy pup you take home.

All pups leave our home with our puppy care package of the following:
