Feeding Your Puppy

Dog Food to get is Nutra-Nuggets.

Recommended Ingredients:

Dry dog food bought for your pup should contain no more than 19% protein. You should also look out for dry dog food that contain wheat or corn products. Danes are susceptible to food allergies and food products containing wheat or corn products can have a higher reaction. Look out for hair loss, reddening of skin and ear inflammation as these can be signs of food allergies.

Calcium, Do I Or Don't I Supplement?

When you supplement growing animals with supplements that have calcium, phosphorus or magnesium in them, it can disrupt this balance and cause serious developmental diseases such as HOD, OCD, Pano, Wobblers, Hip and Elbow Dysplasia.

On pregnant or lactating bitches you can throw them into eclampsia (milk fever).

This is also true when you are using meats/poultry (which are not balanced in calcium and phosphorus ratio) or using a meat/poultry and rice mixture which is also not balanced and therefore can cause problems. Select your meat properly!

Do not use any vitamin/mineral tablets or powders or bone meal. I do not recommend any powdered supplements for growing dogs. Products such as powdered whole food supplements, should be saved for after the growth stages. There is only two exceptions when we add bone meal in our pups diet, and that is if we are feeding meat without having any bone ground up such as chicken, beef meat without any bones, or to correct a short time growing problem. Even then you need to be careful as to how much to add in each feeding. DO NOT OVER SUPPLEMENT WITH BONEMEAL OR ANY OF CALCIUM RICH SUPPLEMENTS EVER.

Do not use rice/meat or rice/poultry combinations with your kibble during growth stages, they are very unbalanced in calcium/phosphorus ratios.

If using meat and bone (ground) with a kibble, this is a balanced combination and it is normally not a problem when used with any balanced kibble.
